Man fatally shot at Wilmington pizza restaurant after women's fight

A 26-year-old man was fatally shot and another man injured Saturday evening at a pizza restaurant in the Wilmington neighborhood of Los Angeles after a fight between two women ended in gunfire, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The shooting at Red West Pizza underscores the lethal risk bystanders face when intervening in public altercations. Police said the underlying cause of the violence had not been immediately determined.

The shooting was reported at 5:51 p.m. at Red West Pizza, 614 W. Pacific Coast Highway, according to ABC7 Los Angeles, which cited a Los Angeles Police Department advisory.

The deceased victim, age 26, had been attempting to separate two women who were fighting when a male suspect opened fire, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man, described as being in his early to mid-20s, was also struck by gunfire and transported to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.

The male suspect fled the scene on foot immediately after the shooting, according to LAPD. Police issued a public advisory approximately one hour after the attack.

The exact sequence of events leading to the shooting remained unclear Saturday evening, and no suspect had been taken into custody, police said.

No arrests had been reported as of Saturday evening. The investigation was ongoing, police said.
