Man held after domestic dispute turns fatal on Anaheim freeway

A domestic dispute turned deadly on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim early Wednesday, leaving one person dead and a man in police custody, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.

The killing temporarily shut down one of Orange County's busiest east-west commuter corridors and highlights the public danger when domestic violence escalates outside the home.

Anaheim police responded around 4 a.m. to the 91 Freeway near Brookhurst Street after initial reports of an active shooter, according to ABC7 Los Angeles. Officers on scene quickly determined the situation did not involve an active shooting — investigators instead classified the incident as a homicide stemming from a domestic dispute.

A man was taken into custody in connection with the killing. Police did not immediately identify the suspect or the victim, and the specific circumstances that preceded the fatal confrontation were not available at the time of publication, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.

Authorities closed the 91 Freeway in both directions at Brookhurst while investigators worked the scene. The corridor is one of the primary routes linking western and eastern Orange County, and the early-morning shutdown affected commuters during the start of the rush-hour period.

Anaheim Police Department confirmed the investigation is ongoing. The department had not released additional details as of Wednesday morning, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.
