Irvine police arrest 3 suspects in $5,000 bank robbery targeting woman

Three men were arrested after robbing a woman of $5,000 in cash outside an Irvine bank — blocking her vehicle, punching her in the face and snatching her backpack — the Irvine Police Department announced Tuesday.

The Irvine Police Department said the suspects had deliberately targeted the woman after watching her withdraw the cash — a pattern that raises safety concerns for bank customers carrying large sums across Orange County.

The attack took place last week after the victim withdrew $5,000 from a bank in Irvine, according to the Irvine Police Department. Three suspects blocked her vehicle, struck her in the face and grabbed her backpack containing the money before fleeing.

Detectives used video evidence and investigative work to track the men. Officers located all three inside a vehicle near a bank and took them into custody, the Irvine Police Department said.

Police identified the suspects as Michael Anthony Goodwin, 21, of San Ramon; Raul Santino Lopez, 22, of El Sobrante; and Keyon Maceo Johnson, 22, of Oakland. Goodwin and Lopez each face charges of robbery and conspiracy. Johnson was charged with conspiracy.

ABC7 Los Angeles reported the arrests Tuesday and noted that the Irvine Police Department released footage documenting the apprehension as part of the official case announcement.

The Irvine Police Department released arrest video Tuesday alongside the official announcement. All three suspects are from Northern California cities — San Ramon, El Sobrante and Oakland.
