OC shelter highlights five pets as adoption discounts near end

Five dogs and cats at OC Animal Care in Tustin need homes as the county-run shelter offers reduced adoption fees, according to Voice of OC. Cat and kitten adoptions cost $50 through Sunday, while fees for dogs weighing at least 25 pounds are waived during October.

The promotions lower the cost of adoption for Orange County residents, with regular cat and kitten fees ranging from $100 to $175. Both dogs featured in the report, Ballistic and Roman, qualify for the October fee waiver.

Voice of OC identified the available animals as Ruth, Ballistic, Cinder, Roman and Boo-dini. Four came to the shelter as strays; Roman was returned by a previous adopter. The cat adoption discount honors National Cat Day, which fell on Thursday.

Ruth, a spayed, 3-year-old black domestic shorthair, arrived from Santa Ana on June 17. Her ID is A1965955. Shelter staff recommend adopters who have experience with cats and no young children, according to the report.

Ballistic, ID A1980387, is a neutered, 5-year-old German shorthaired pointer who arrived Oct. 3 and weighs 90 pounds. Staff recommend a home without children, where he would be the only dog or share the home with other large dogs. Roman, ID A1976709, is a neutered, 1-year-old German shepherd–Labrador retriever mix weighing 57 pounds. His intake date is Oct. 21, and he is still learning leash manners.

Cinder, ID A1979327, is a spayed, 5-month-old orange tabby domestic shorthair who arrived from Santa Ana on Sept. 25. Boo-dini, ID A1980607, is a neutered, 3-year-old gray tabby domestic shorthair who came from Fountain Valley on Oct. 5, according to Voice of OC.

Visitors can walk through the shelter's kennel areas daily between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., according to Voice of OC. To schedule an adoption visit, call (714) 935-6848 and provide the animal's ID number.
