Magic: The Gathering launches Marvel crossover set June 26

Wizards of the Coast hosted a fan preview event Saturday for its upcoming Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Superheroes crossover set, offering themed experiences and hands-on gameplay ahead of the June 26 launch, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.

The set features original artwork from Marvel comic artists — a combination that head designer Mark Rosewater said surpassed internal recruitment targets and reflects a natural fit between two art-driven franchises.

Marvel comic artists contributed original card illustrations to the new set, with participation exceeding what the design team projected. "So many artists were so excited, we blew past our goal," head designer Mark Rosewater said, according to ABC7 Los Angeles. "'Magic' is all about great art, Marvel is all about great art, so it was a perfect marriage."

The preview event also drew U.S. figure skater and Olympic gold medalist Amber Glenn, who described the card game as a genuine personal passion. "It has been skating, skating, skating non-stop for a while so to get to do something outside of it, is really, really exciting and I'm so glad that one of my hobbies, something I really truly enjoy got to be so public and it got to be explored more," Glenn said, per ABC7 Los Angeles.

Longtime player and collector Leonard Williams said he has already settled on a strategy for the new cards. "I'm definitely looking forward to starting a deck with Thor," Williams said.

The event featured themed photo opportunities and early access to gameplay from the upcoming set, giving fans a first look before the official June 26 release.

The Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Superheroes set is scheduled for release June 26, 2026.
