Carbon Fire burns 200 acres near Brea, evacuation warnings in effect

A brush fire in unincorporated Brea has burned roughly 200 acres with evacuation warnings in effect Saturday for parts of Olina Village and Hollydale, the Orange County Fire Authority said.

No structures were immediately threatened, but the fire's advance through steep, narrow terrain underscores persistent wildfire risk across Orange County as spring dryness deepens.

The Orange County Fire Authority, working alongside the Brea Fire Department and Brea Police Department, deployed aircraft and ground crews Saturday to battle the Carbon Fire burning in unincorporated Brea, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

Fire officials initially issued evacuation warnings for four areas: El Rodeo Stables, Brea Hills Avenue, Olina Village and Hollydale. Warnings were later lifted for El Rodeo Stable and Brea Hills Avenue, but remained in effect for Olina Village and Hollydale as of Saturday morning, ABC7 reported.

No structures were threatened as of the latest reports. Steep, narrow terrain in parts of the burn zone made some sections difficult for ground crews to access, complicating suppression efforts, according to ABC7.

Carbon Canyon Road was closed between Brea Hills and Ruby, with officials directing evacuation traffic eastbound only. The Red Cross opened a care and reception center at Chino Hills Community Center to serve displaced residents.

Containment figures had not been released as of Saturday morning. Officials urged residents in active warning zones to monitor updates from the Orange County Fire Authority and be prepared to evacuate on short notice, ABC7 reported.
