Man faces attempted murder charge after samurai sword attack in Venice Beach

A man was arrested Saturday and charged with attempted murder after attacking a person with a samurai sword on a Venice Beach street the previous Thursday evening, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

The attack, which left blood at the scene and injured the victim's arm, draws fresh attention to public safety at Venice Beach — one of Southern California's most heavily visited open-air destinations.

The assault unfolded on the 700 block of Rose Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. The suspect attacked a person with a samurai sword, leaving the victim with injuries to the arm.

Blood was visible on a retaining wall in front of a nearby business following the attack, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

Authorities took the suspect into custody on Saturday, two days after the assault. He now faces a charge of attempted murder, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.

Police said the motive for the attack remains unclear. The victim's current condition had not been publicly disclosed at the time of reporting.

Venice Beach, on the west side of Los Angeles, is a popular coastal neighborhood known for its boardwalk, street performers and heavy foot traffic from tourists and local residents.

No motive has been established, and the investigation is continuing, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.
