OC Animal Care to host free adoption expo Saturday in Huntington Beach

OC Animal Care is waiving adoption fees for larger dogs throughout April and hosting a free Pet Adoption Expo on Saturday in Huntington Beach, where prospective owners can meet available animals and access discounted veterinary services.

The expo and fee waivers come as OC Animal Care — the county-run shelter in Tustin — works to place long-stay animals, some of whom have been at the facility for more than a month.

The free Pet Adoption Expo runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Huntington Beach Central Park, according to Voice of OC. About two dozen vendors will offer low-cost veterinary services, including rabies vaccinations for $15, microchipping, and a $50 discount on spay and neuter procedures.

The April promotion waives adoption fees for all dogs weighing 25 pounds or more. Voice of OC reported that Monroe, an 8-year-old French bulldog weighing 22 pounds, has also been made eligible for the fee waiver despite falling slightly below the threshold.

Among the other dogs available is Sarsaparilla, a 3-year-old pit bull mix weighing 54 pounds who has been at the shelter for two weeks. Maggie, an 8-year-old English bulldog mix at 59 pounds, has been at the facility for more than a month and is available through a foster-to-adopt program, Voice of OC reported.

Prospective cat owners can meet Darin, a 5-year-old domestic shorthair described as affectionate and fond of wet food and toys, and Sandy, an 11-month-old domestic shorthair kitten weighing 8 pounds.

OC Animal Care is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interested adopters can call (714) 935-6848 to schedule a visit.

OC Animal Care in Tustin operates as the county's primary animal shelter. Voice of OC's Collegiate News Service first reported the April adoption promotion and Saturday expo.
