Armed men steal $1.8M from Brinks truck in Philadelphia

Two gunmen armed with assault rifles seized $1.8 million from a Brinks armored truck Tuesday morning in Philadelphia while the vehicle was servicing a Budget Financial Center, police said.

The FBI is leading the investigation into the brazen daylight heist, which unfolded around 9:45 a.m. in a busy Philadelphia business district. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday evening.

The two suspects approached the Brinks truck at approximately 9:45 a.m. as it made a scheduled stop at a Budget Financial Center location, according to ABC7 Los Angeles. Both men were armed with assault rifles. They took roughly $1.8 million and fled the scene.

Officers later located a blue Acura SUV believed to be the getaway vehicle, ABC7 reported. Investigators canvassed the surrounding business district and sought surveillance footage from nearby establishments.

No injuries were reported at the scene. A witness told ABC7 they observed a commotion and a vehicle fleeing onto the sidewalk before police arrived to secure the area and request camera footage.

The FBI assumed lead jurisdiction over the case, a standard protocol in armored truck robberies involving large sums. Federal agents had not publicly named any suspects or described the evidence collected as of Tuesday evening.

The FBI was coordinating with local law enforcement as the investigation continued. Authorities asked anyone with information about the robbery to come forward.
