Mother survives tree falling onto minivan amid Santa Ana winds

A mother of four survived after a tree fell onto her moving minivan in Santa Clarita on Friday amid strong Santa Ana winds, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. Jenna Krell was driving to pick up a son from school when the tree struck.

No children were inside the minivan, and people at the scene helped Krell get out. She has returned home after hospital treatment but reported back pain and continuing distress, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

Krell was traveling on McBean Parkway near Magic Mountain Parkway when the tree toppled onto her vehicle, according to ABC7 Los Angeles. Strong Santa Ana winds were blowing at the time.

The impact cracked the windshield and sent broken glass falling onto Krell. She told the station she saw the tree coming down and feared she would not survive.

People at the scene approached the damaged minivan and pulled her out. Krell told ABC7 Los Angeles she was in shock as they helped her escape the vehicle.

Her husband, Brett, a nurse, joined her at the hospital. He told the station that she does much of the work of caring for their family and that he could not imagine being without her.

Despite her lingering aches and distress, Krell told ABC7 Los Angeles she was grateful to be alive and back with her family.
