Katy Perry to headline US World Cup opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium

Katy Perry will headline the opening ceremony for the United States' first 2026 FIFA World Cup match, FIFA announced Friday, with the performance set for June 12 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

The announcement sets the entertainment program for the Southern California leg of the first World Cup to expand to 48 nations, as the United States co-hosts the tournament alongside Mexico and Canada.

FIFA announced the entertainment lineup Friday night for opening ceremonies across all three host nations, according to ABC7 Los Angeles. Perry will share the SoFi Stadium stage with rapper Future, K-pop star Lisa, South African singer Tyla, Brazilian artist Anitta, Nigerian singer and rapper Rema and DJ Sanjoy.

The June 12 ceremony precedes the United States' group-stage opener against Paraguay. Opening ceremonies across all three host venues are scheduled to begin 90 minutes before each game's kickoff.

The tournament officially opens one day earlier, on June 11, when Mexico faces South Africa at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The Mexican ceremony lineup includes Alejandro Fernández, J Balvin, Maná, Los Ángeles Azules, Lila Downs, Belinda and Danny Ocean, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.

Canada's home opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina at BMO Field in Toronto will feature performances by Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Nora Fatehi, William Prince, Elyanna and Vegedream, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

The 2026 World Cup marks the first time the tournament has expanded to a 48-nation field, representing the largest field in World Cup history.
