ABC7 launches 15th annual Feed SoCal food drive through May 29

ABC7 launched its 15th annual Feed SoCal food drive Wednesday, calling on Southern California residents to donate to four regional food banks as rising costs push one in five people across the region into food insecurity.

The campaign runs through May 29 and directs donations to four partner food banks, including Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, which distributed 42.1 million pounds of food in fiscal year 2024-2025 and served an average of nearly 459,000 neighbors in need each month.

A donation of $25 provides 100 meals for people in need, ABC7 said. The station will intensify its campaign coverage through a special broadcast May 25-29, culminating in a live mobilization event on May 29.

Rising food and living costs have left one in five Southern California residents unable to reliably access enough nutritious food, according to ABC7, which described an affordability crisis as the primary driver of this year's effort spanning Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, one of four official partner organizations, distributed 42.1 million pounds of food during fiscal year 2024-2025 and served an average of 458,995 neighbors in need monthly, ABC7 reported.

The LA Regional Food Bank has earned the highest rating from both Candid and Charity Navigator, with 96 percent of its revenue directed to programs. Food Share of Ventura County serves more than 250,000 food-insecure residents annually and distributes 21 million pounds of food each year, while Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino distributes 3.1 million pounds of food per month, according to ABC7.

The food drive is presented in partnership with Stater Bros. Markets and Subaru.

Donations are open through May 29 via the ABC7 website. A live Feed SoCal fundraising broadcast is scheduled for that day.
