Wife warns Marketplace users after husband is killed in Texas

A Texas woman is warning Facebook Marketplace users to be careful after her husband was robbed at gunpoint and fatally shot while trying to sell property, investigators said.

ABC7 Los Angeles, citing reporting from ABC Houston affiliate KTRK, reported the case involved a meeting in the Aldine area and a 17-year-old charged with capital murder.

Mayra Gonzalez spoke exclusively with KTRK after the death of her husband, Victor Gonzalez, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. She described him as devoted to family and friends, saying, "Everyone knew him. He had friends everywhere."

Investigators said Victor Gonzalez met Anthony Castro in the Aldine area to sell property through Facebook Marketplace when he was robbed at gunpoint, according to ABC7 Los Angeles. Castro, 17, is charged with capital murder in connection with Gonzalez's death.

After the robbery, Gonzalez followed Castro's vehicle and called 9-1-1 to give dispatchers directions, court documents say, according to the report. During the call, Gonzalez told dispatchers he had been shot and then stopped responding.

A person who picked Castro up after the armed robbery told officers Castro got out of the car and shot at Gonzalez's vehicle, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. Court documents say surveillance video captured three gunshots during the confrontation.

Mayra Gonzalez said she and Victor Gonzalez had two young children. "Losing the father of my kids has been the worst thing that ever happened in my life," she said. "They loved him so, so much."

Mayra Gonzalez urged others to treat her family’s loss as a warning, saying, "Take what happened to me and my family as a learning lesson for everyone," and, "That Facebook Market, I mean, don't trust people. Be careful."
