OC Animal Care features five pets, offers October adoption discounts

OC Animal Care in Tustin is highlighting five pets available for adoption as it waives adoption fees this month for dogs weighing at least 25 pounds, according to Voice of OC. The shelter also plans an adoption event Oct. 24 with discounted fees for cats, kittens and some dogs.

The county-run shelter offers Orange County residents a chance to meet adoptable animals, but staff recommendations vary by pet. Two of the featured animals need homes without children, and one dog is eligible for foster-to-adopt, Voice of OC reported.

The Oct. 24 event, called Fall In Love, will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature resource booths, face painting and pet grooming demonstrations, according to Voice of OC. Advertised adoption fees are $25 for cats and kittens and $100 for dogs under 25 pounds or younger than 6 months, with fees waived for dogs weighing at least 25 pounds. Separately, the shelter’s Whisker Wednesdays promotion sets cat and kitten adoption fees at $50 on Wednesdays.

All three featured dogs meet the weight requirement for October’s fee waiver. Haystack (A1975670), a 4-year-old neutered male Siberian husky weighing 53.5 pounds, was returned by a previous adopter. His listed intake date is Sept. 2, and he came from Santa Ana. Staff recommend a home without children; he also qualifies for foster-to-adopt, Voice of OC reported.

Articuno (A1970155) is a 6-year-old spayed female Siberian husky weighing 48 pounds. Her listed intake date is July 16, from Santa Ana, and staff describe her as shy but sweet. Indiana (A1977800), a 3-year-old neutered male mastiff mix weighing 86 pounds, arrived Sept. 11 from Orange County. Staff recommend a patient family for him.

The featured cats are Tron and Ruth. Tron (A1975246) is a 6-month-old neutered male weighing 3.8 pounds who arrived Aug. 22 from Huntington Beach. Voice of OC’s narrative identifies him as a domestic shorthair, while the accompanying details list domestic medium hair. Ruth (A1965955), a 3-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair weighing 7.2 pounds, arrived June 17 from Santa Ana. Staff recommend a home with pet-care experience and no children.

Visitors may walk through the shelter’s kennel areas daily between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., according to Voice of OC. To arrange an adoption visit, call (714) 935-6848 and give the animal ID number of any pet of interest.

Beyond the fee discounts, the shelter’s recommendations distinguish the needs of each pet, from a patient household for Indiana to a child-free, pet-experienced home for Ruth.
