'Devil Wears Prada 2' premieres in New York with original cast reunited

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci reunited Monday at Lincoln Center on Manhattan's Upper West Side for the world premiere of "The Devil Wears Prada 2," the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 fashion-world comedy, ahead of the film's May 1 theatrical release.

The Lincoln Center premiere signals wide international appetite for the sequel to one of Hollywood's most beloved comedies, with Streep's promotional tour spanning Asia — including Seoul — drawing particular interest from Korean and Korean-American audiences.

The red carpet drew one of the season's most high-profile casts, with the principal ensemble joined by pop star and actress Lady Gaga, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

Streep, who reprises her role as imperious fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly, described an exhausting run of international stops before landing in New York. "It's overwhelming. I've just been around the world with it to Mexico City, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai and the anticipation is kind of global," Streep said.

Hathaway, returning as aspiring journalist Andy Sachs, credited the original film as the foundation for her later artistic risks. "A movie like this has given me so much freedom to get weird as an artist because it cemented me as Andy Sachs in people's minds and I was like well, maybe I can make a film like Rachel Getting Married, maybe I can push myself to be this and something else. So it's just been so responsible for all of the good things that have happened in my life," Hathaway said.

Blunt and Tucci also walked the red carpet alongside their co-stars at the Lincoln Center venue on the Upper West Side.

"The Devil Wears Prada 2" opens in theaters May 1, following a promotional world tour that brought Streep to Mexico City, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai.
