Disney+ trailer previews Heffley family's island holiday mishaps

A new trailer for Disney+'s animated comedy Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: The Getaway previews a family holiday beset by mishaps at an island resort. The film begins streaming exclusively on Disney+ on Dec. 4, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.

The holiday adventure draws on Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, with Kinney writing and producing the film. Disney+ also carries the existing Diary of a Wimpy Kid Collection.

According to ABC7 Los Angeles, the story follows Greg Heffley and his family to an all-inclusive resort in Isla de Corales. Their island getaway becomes a succession of vacation mishaps.

The trailer shows a spider crawling on Greg's head. In another encounter, fish swarm him after mistaking him for food, ABC7 reported.

Jacob Isaac Peterson voices Greg. The family cast includes Chris Diamantopoulos as Frank, Erica Cerra as Susan, Hunter Dillon as Rodrick and Gracen Newton as Manny, according to ABC7.

Matt Danner directs the animated film. Alongside Kinney's writing and producing credits, the cast includes Fred Armisen as the Director of Fun and Beau Bridges as Captain Stubbard, ABC7 reported.

ABC7 Los Angeles disclosed that The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of both Disney+ and the ABC station.
