'Welcome to Wrexham' season 5 to premiere May 14 on FXX, Hulu

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McGuigan's Emmy-winning documentary series "Welcome to Wrexham" returns for a fifth season May 14 on FXX and Hulu, following the Welsh club's historic back-to-back-to-back promotions in the English Football League.

The series documents one of sports' most improbable Hollywood stories — two celebrities transforming one of the world's oldest football clubs into a global brand with Premier League promotion now within reach.

Season five premieres at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on FXX and Hulu, with international viewers able to stream on Disney+. New episodes will roll out weekly after the premiere, according to ABC7.

Reynolds and McGuigan purchased Wrexham Red Dragons in 2021. Founded more than two centuries ago, Wrexham is the third oldest football club in the world. Over the course of the first four seasons, the series followed the team through three consecutive promotions in the English Football League.

When asked in 2021 what his ideal Hollywood ending would look like, Reynolds did not hesitate. "Oh boy. (I) would be lying if it wasn't Premier League or something like that," Reynolds said, according to ABC7.

McGuigan backed the ambition with equal confidence. "Why not dream big?" he said, according to ABC7.

The series has collected 10 Emmy Awards in total, including Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program. It has been renewed through season eight. Season five also shines a spotlight on the Wrexham women's team as they compete in the Welsh Adran Premier League.

"Welcome to Wrexham" season five airs May 14 on FXX and Hulu, with new episodes each week as the club continues its pursuit of the Premier League.
