Lost Boys and Schmigadoon tie at 12 Tony nominations to lead 2026 season

"The Lost Boys" and "Schmigadoon!" each collected 12 nominations Tuesday to lead the 2026 Tony Award field, while June Squibb made history at 96 as the oldest actor ever to receive a Tony nomination, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.

The nominations, spanning 24 shows across 26 categories, cap a Broadway season dominated by film and streaming adaptations — with the ceremony set for June 7 at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Danny Burstein earned his ninth career Tony nomination this season, surpassing Jason Robards to become the most-nominated male actor in the award's history, according to ABC7 Los Angeles. Kelli O'Hara also made the record books, matching Rosemary Harris's nine acting nominations to rank third on the all-time list.

Squibb, whose Broadway history stretches back to 1960 when she appeared in the original "Gypsy" alongside Ethel Merman, broke the record previously held by Lois Smith, who received a nomination at 89 in 2020, ABC7 Los Angeles reported.

Behind the two leaders, "Ragtime" — set in early 20th-century America — gathered 11 nominations, while "Death of a Salesman" starring two-time Tony winner Nathan Lane collected nine, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. Across all 26 categories, 24 productions received at least one nomination.

Rose Byrne, recognized for her role in "Fallen Angels," became the 22nd performer to receive Academy Award and Tony Award nominations in the same year, according to ABC7 Los Angeles. John Lithgow, Daniel Radcliffe and Adrien Brody were among other high-profile names in this season's field.

The ceremony is scheduled for June 7 at Radio City Music Hall, with Pink serving as host. Last year's telecast drew 4.85 million viewers — the largest CBS audience for the Tony Awards in six years, according to Nielsen.

The 2026 ceremony marks Pink's first time hosting the annual theater honors; last year's show was hosted by Cynthia Erivo. Squibb's nomination alone gives the telecast a built-in storyline: a performer whose career began when Dwight Eisenhower was president is now competing for Broadway's top prize.
