Shooting kills one, wounds eight near Birmingham stadium after football game

One person was killed and eight others were wounded in a shooting outside Birmingham's Legion Field on Saturday night after the annual Magic City Classic football game, ABC7 Los Angeles reported, citing police.

The shooting occurred near vendors along Graymont Avenue after most spectators and families had left the stadium grounds, according to police. The circumstances remained unclear, and no motive was stated.

ABC7 Los Angeles reported that the gunfire broke out just beyond the stadium property, near the vendors on Graymont Avenue.

Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said most spectators and families had already departed the stadium grounds before the shooting.

Police detained one person and took that person to police headquarters for questioning, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

Police spokesperson De'Rell Freeman said officers found and secured several weapons, the station reported.

The report did not establish what led to the shooting or state a motive.
